My name is Ashleigh Helms and I am a high school senior at the International School in Bellevue, Washington. I am currently working on my capstone project- a community service and learning based project that every senior at my school completes for graduation. For my project I am learning about Interior design by shadowing a professional and working with others in the community.

 

As my final project I am going to apply what I have learned and will be re-decorating the parent lounge area at Childhaven. This is a non-profit organization that helps infants, toddlers, and preschoolers who have experienced difficulties. They provide early-learning, early-intervention and counseling programs to help families and their children succeed.  The space that I will be redecorating plays an important role in the function of the organization. It is a space where parents can come to visit their children, take care of their other children, or simply relax. Families are able to use the room to access the internet, food and have a safe and warm space to spend quality time together. As this is such an important room, I will be exploring what makes a room comfortable and relaxing and will hopefully be able to bring the feeling of home to them.
